Reporting to the Practice Manager of the OP Oncology Stemcell site, performs patient care, education, administration, research and consultation duties including the administration of chemotherapy; education of patients, families and nursing staff related to oncology; explanation of research protocols to patients and nursing staff; coordinating patient care with other hospital staff; providing psychosocial support for patients, families and staff; participation in the quality assurance program; and participation in community cancer education programs in order to improve the quality of patient care.
Current licensure by the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse. Bachelor’s Degree required. Candidates with an Associate’s Degree may be considered if they are currently enrolled in an BSN program, or will enroll within six (6) months of hire, and will complete within three (3) years. Demonstrated clinical expertise with at least two (2) to five (5) years of clinical experience in Cancer Nursing. Current CPR certification. Current Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification. Current O.C.N. certification required.
The necessary analytical skills to resolve problems and to develop methods of enhancing the quality of nursing care on a systematic basis, to assess clinical situations, to provide effective patient/family education, and to assist staff with their learning needs. The interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with the staff, patients, visitors, physicians and other personnel. The communication skills necessary to conduct educational and support group programs. The ability to administer chemotherapy in a knowledgeable, skillful and safe manner.
